Letters to the Editor

Dr. Raabe's recent RADSAFE comments regarding the timeliness of
letters to the editor make a very good point.

I would like to suggest that members of RADSAFE prepare for this
by writing generic letters in advance of need (perhaps "borrowing"
the several excellent ones posted on RADSAFE itself), with
addresses of local newspapers attached. These are to be stored on
the individual's computer until required, then recalled, fixed up
a bit as needed, excess addresses deleted, and mailed. Since most
anti-nuke arguments are recycled ad-nauseam, it should not be hard
to come up with a dozen or so "template" letters refuting each anti
argument. Then cut and paste for an instant response.

Perhaps some of the various HP web sites can post several such
generic letters, or individual arguments, for members to download
and customize (it is not good to send several *identical* letters
to the same newspaper), so to have ready when the occasion arises.

In any case, for those who wrote too late to be considered,
save your work so as to have it ready to hand for the next time.
