I have no wish to be a "cause celebre" (actually I have been, and it's
not pleasant). I only want the radsafers to know thatthere are people
in the environmental movement -- and they are mostly the spokespersons
that the press gets, because these are their full-time jobs -- who
have other agendas than environmental protection, and who are making a
career out of destroying one industry or another, or simply out of
sensationalism and a desire to get members in their organizations, and
that there is in some cases funding behind these efforts. The
environmental movement gained a reputation for credibility, mostly
through the efforts of people like me during the 60s and 70s. The
"hidden agenda" folks are now trading on this credibility and
destroying it in the long run.
I am not interested in a media battle, nor do I think anyone should
be. Even more, I am unalterably opposed to pandering to irrational
fears, and the one thing I deplore about the "hidden agenda" folks is
their capitalizing on ignorance and fear. We must raise our voices
for the truth and for reason, strongly and persistently. If that means
showing an environmentalist up as a liar or an ignoramus, so be it. I
believe it is a good idea to raise these questions at public hearings,
where a record is kept, in letters to members of Congress, and in
letters to newspapers.

Ruth,
If you have any hard and fast data to confrim what you said about
Greenpeace, et al wanting you to be a voice for them, you should consider going
public. This is just the sort of sensationalism that the media loves. And it
would portray the Environmental Nazis in a less than favorable light.
Just my opinion. of course.
