Review of ASTM D5928 Method for Screening of Waste for Radioactivity

There is an announcement in the March ASTM 'Standardization News'
about the review of ASTM D5928 "Standard Test Method for
Screening of Waste for Radioactivity" as developed by Subcommittee
D34.02.04 on Screening Techniques.

Its indicated that there is intent to review the method and
streghthen it to address:

* incorporate administrative considerations with measurements
  of radioactivity

* Base the new criteria for acceptable measured levels of
radioactivity upon those in U.S. Atomic Energy Commission
Regulatory Guide 1.86 (Termination of Operating Licences
  for Nuclear Reactors).

* Clarify the approach to convert radiation meter readings in
counts per minute to the criteria of disintegrations per
  100 cm^2.
