I'm delighted that several people have already inquired about the health
physicist position vacancy in Los Angeles County. However, some have

Los Angeles County Radiation Management is seeking a health physicist
to perform radioactive materials inspections in Los Angeles County
(LAC). California is an Agreement State, and LAC, the largest county in
the United States, enforces State & federal laws regulating the use,
storage, transport, & disposal of radioactive materials. We have
responsibility for approximately 285 licenses, covering a broad spectrum
of uses. Licensees include source manufacturers, radiopharmacies,
broad scope, two gamma knives, industrial, research, & medical users.

The successful candidate must have graduated from an accredited
college with specialization in physics, engineering or a related
field-AND-have at least three years of professional experience,
excluding radiation monitoring & surveys, in the field of radiological
health. One year of full-time graduate work in health physics or a closely
related field will be accepted for one year of the required experience.
Previous inspection experience is preferred, but not required.

The position offers an opportunity to obtain considerable experience &
expertise involving a variety of radionuclides, & receiving training from
the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Oak Ridge Associated Universities,
& others. The salary as of 1/1/98 ranges from $3,590-$4,454/month,
increases to $3,696-$4,588/month 7/1/98, with an additional increase to
