Many years ago I participated in developing a detector specialized
for low background detection of a specific nuclide.  The first
prototype used G-10 which is a glass reinforced fiberglass used
in printed circuit boards (the hazy green stuff).

The background was way higher than we had projected.  We analyzed
a sample on a Ge(Li) (it was several years ago) and found that
it had a lot of Thorium.
