With regards to x-rays zapping the eprom ---- NO WAY!
I was asked this question a few years ago and didn't THINK there would be a
problem - BUT wanting to be sure - I programmed up a few eproms and exposed
to x-rays in stages up to 1 megarad!
I found NO loss of information.
Personally I think HP has always over stated the fragility of their
printers to all sorts of things - starting with the days of claiming a
mechanical parallel port switch would damage the printer port.
