Re: Safety Questioned at Nuclear Plant -Reply -Reply

Mr. Bennett:

Your efforts are admirable. For our part, this lab is located in
the Engineering Research Center for the university, and the Center is
toured frequently by junior and senior high students. Our lab is a
regular stop for these students, and we demonstrate different everyday
sources of radiation, such as the Fiestaware, radium-painted watches, etc.
We also demonstrate simple shielding examples, such as paper, aluminum,
and plexiglass over low-energy gamma sources. Many are visibly
fascinated. Questions about nuclear power generating plants are also
fielded. I am also considering putting up a display on food irradiation,
with copies of articles on studies pointing to its safety available for
interested parties. We are trying to do our part.

If my understanding is correct, I find it a pity that foreign
investors are buying the next generation of American-engineered advanced
reactors before American investors. I just don't see much of an energy
future without nuclear power.
