RE: survey meter check sources
We use lantern mantles securely taped to the sides of the instruments.
I think they were only about $1.00 or so per package of two. We
purchased ours from a hardware catalog, but they are readily available
at sporting goods stores. Just be careful not to by the "new and
improved" non-radioactive type.

Subject: survey meter check sources
Each of our survey meters have a small check source affixed to
the
side of the instrument so that the operation of the meter can be
easily checked before use. We presently use a small piece of U
covered
by a metal foil but are considering other sources.
The questions I have are:
What do you use as your check source?
What is the cost?
Who sells it?
Thanks ahead of time for the responses. Please e-mail to me
directly.
Also thanks to the individuals who responded to our previous
inquiries
about the use of sources in health physics operations and DOT
training.
