     As a utility Health Physicist (BS and MS degrees) interested in 
     entering the RSO field, I question whether the salaries stated in many 
     postings can compensate for the position requirements and cost of 
     living at such places.  It seems that the only way to fill the 
     positions would be to settle for "principle equivalent" 
     qualifications.  I concede that there are qualified persons willing to 
     embrace "voluntary simplicity" by adjusting their life style to the 
     salary levels mentioned.  However, the salary levels posted likely 
     communicate the value and commitment of the institution to the 
     function as a whole.  The operating budget of the position may well be 
     as important as the salary in determining longevity.
