Workshop on In Vivo Measurements

I am providing RADSAFE with the following information about an upcoming international workshop on In Vivo measurements to be held in Belgium in May 1999. You can obtain additional information about the workshop or be added to the mailing list by contacting the Invivo99 Secretariat or any member of the Scientific Secretariat.

In Vivo Monitoring
For Internal Contamination:
New Techniques For New Needs

Mol (Belgium), 25-28 May 1999

The Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCKoCEN), the Institute for Protection and Nuclear Safety (IPSN), the European Commission (EC), and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory-US Department of Energy (LLNL- DOE) are jointly organizing this international workshop on In Vivo measurements

The workshop will emphasize recent technical improvements, numerical methods, uncertainties in measurement calibration and their optimization. Open discussions will be possible in poster and plenary sessions to cover the following foreseen topics :

1. Phantoms, calibration, mathematical models
2. Implication of ICRP models in measurements,
3. State of the art of the most recent techniques,
4. Worker monitoring in normal and emergency situation,
5. Mass monitoring of population,
6. Intercomparison, quality assurance, accreditation
7. Medical applications

In order to ensure efficient discussions, attendance will be limited. Scientists wishing to attend the Workshop or to receive further information are requested to contact the Secretariat as soon as possible.

Under support by the EC, registration fee is expected to be about $150.00 and will cover participation to the scientific program, the book of abstracts, the proceedings, refreshments during breaks, lunches, and the Workshop dinner.

Limited funds are available to assist scientists with the cost of attending the Workshop, in particular young scientists wishing to submit a paper. Conditions for eligibility of young scientists are to be under 37 years old, to have received the most recent degree in 1985 or later and to be currently employed as a graduate student, post-doctoral fellow or research associate.

Abstracts

Proffered papers are invited for poster and oral presentation. Scientists wishing to present a paper are requested to submit a sufficiently detailed and informative abstract (300 words max.) before December 1, 1998 to the Invivo99 Secretariat. The first author will be notified in January 1999 whether or not the paper has been accepted for oral or poster presentation. A camera-ready form will be sent with the 2nd announcement in order to submit final abstracts before 30 March 1999. The conference language will be English. Conditions for publishing the proceedings of the Workshop are being investigated. Further information will be given with the 2nd Announcement. Manuscripts will be requested at the beginning of the meeting.
