Re: badge sensitivity topic

Sandy, you wrote "The practice is, what is reported is what is recorded."

It is not, never has been, and will not be the policy of UC Berkeley to ".
. . what is reported is what is recorded." UCB uses the professional
judgement of the radiation safety staff and information from badge holders
to determine what will be recorded as the official dose.

To follow what you have stated, we would have recorded a vendor reported
exposure of 20 mrem for an individual who we KNEW FOR A FACT did not wear
the badge AT ANY TIME during the wear period. The basis would be that what
is reported is what is recorded? No, the basis is that the TRUE exposure of
zero will be recorded and defended to the regulators etc. In fact, only a
few years ago we changed dosimetry vendors and one of the primary reasons
was that they too thought (wrongly) that THEY were the final authority on
what dose would be assigned.

Despite your disclaimer, since you are the Technical Director of the ICN
Dosimetry Division, I assume that your opinion that " what is reported is
what is recorded" is the official position that ICN has taken on this
subject?
