WIPP Nuclear Dump Opening Delayed - (CARLSBAD, New 
Mexico) -- The Energy Department has announced that an
underground nuclear waste dump in New Mexico will NOT open 
this year. The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant will eventually take
radioactive waste currently being stored in eastern Idaho. Energy 
Department officials say new legal challenges prevent them
from opening the plant by the end of the year.
