In addition to the links that Bruce provided I would recommend the
following publications:

"Closing the Circle on the Splitting of the Atom" Available from the DOE
Environmental Management Information Center 1-800-7EM-DATA

"Science, Society, and America's Nuclear Waste"  Avialable from the DOE
Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management 1-800-225-6972. This is a
series of four books designed to be used in the classroom and I have found
it to be very usefull in writing lectures.  This covers radiation
fundamentals as well as the issues and some solutions to our waste problems.
