Nuclear Medicine Procedures up 7%

DES PLAINES, Ill., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Technology Marketing 
Group's sixth consecutive survey of the nuclear medicine market 
revealed that procedures grew 6.6% in 1997 over 1996 from 12.1 to 
12.9 million procedures based on interviews with over 5,600 sites 
across the U.S. This compares to 11.0 million procedures in 1994 
and 11.6 million procedures in 1995 or an average growth rate of 
4.9% from 1994 to 1996. 

Nuclear cardiology perfusion studies continue to show particularly 
strong growth with a 17% increase over 1996. In general,
cardiovascular studies comprise an ever-increasing percentage of 
total procedures, accounting for 45% in 1997, up from 38% in 
1993. 

The TMG survey individually profiles more than 5,600 nuclear 
medicine facilities representing more than 90% of all identified
sites in the U.S.; 3,814 hospital departments responded from a 
total of 4,076 nationwide and 1,287 independent sites responded 
from a total of 1,519. It is the largest compilation of market survey 
data available on the nuclear imaging market. The annual TMG 
survey was conducted in cooperation with the Society of Nuclear 
Medicine and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
