Pet facility and F-18

We are in the process of installing a PET scanner. At this time the only
isotope to be used is F-18. The average doses will be 5 to 6 mCi. 5
patients / day.

I am seeking shielding advice. My calculations for most of the room (13 x
20 feet) require 1/4 inch lead shielding. However, I have heard that some
facilities have used as much as 1/2 inch of lead.

What am I missing? Please send responses to me at my e-mail address below.

Thank you in advance.
