With the TLD it is imperative that the neutron spectra be known in
order for a neutron correction factor to be used. A TLD can not
differentiate between neutron energy. It just provides a response. A
factor such as PuBe, AmBe, Cf-252-m or Cf-252 umod must be
known and used to determine the appropriate dose equivalent.
As far as CR39, it is energy independent, and the spectra need not
be known. What one must know is what line equation to use for the
various responses. The higher the dose, it is appropriate to use a
different line equation. Lots of data must be collected to determine
these lines.
