Let me clarify the point I was making above, since I believe that I
may have not stated it properly. If an individual wears 2 whole body
dosimeters (chest and collar) the highest single badge is used for
reporting the DDE (whole body dose) for that time period. This is
done each and every time multiple dosimetry is worn. IF the
computer system is sophisticated enough, each body area can be
independently tracked, and the highest body area can then be
reported, for a QTD, YTD or lifetime value. Generally, the
conservative approach, and the easiest for the computer is to take
the highest dosimeter for each period, and sum them.
Prior to your facility using the EDE calculation, the collar badge
represented the maximum DDE or whole body dose. As you said,
on your dose report, each dosimeter is tracked independently, and,
you also get the calculated dose weighted result. The lifetime for
the calculation is still only a part of the lifetime dose, and the rest
of it has to come from the previous lifetime dose from whatever
method you used to derive the "highest body location" derived dose.
I hope this makes a little more sense.
