RE: 2 Questions
If you have the time to read, there also is a good description of MDAs in
Appendix A of HPS N13.30, "Performance Criteria for Bioassay."

John-
The general MDA equation for the situation when the background count time is
different than the sample count time is given by Strom and Stansbury in HP
Journal 63 (3):360-361, 1992. The same equation can be found in NUREG-1507
(June 1998). It is as follows:
MDA = [3 + 3.29 SQRT{(Rb)(ts)(1+(ts/tb))}]/[(eff)(ts)]
where Rb = background cpm, ts = sample count time, and tb = background count
time.

Subject: 2 Questions
A while back someone out there posted a Internet address for a Training
guide for Health Physics Technicians. I bookmark the site but someone
deleted it. Can anybody remember it? I think it was the Departmentof Engery
Training Guide
Also, can I get some ideas of which formula everyone is using for MDC and
MDA Determinations. I am intrested in a formula to achived a certain MDA by
varrying sample count time only.
Thanks
