I believe they violated the license agreement for possession and use if they
dismantled a smoke detector to obtain this source [they were allowed to possess
and use a smoke detector that just happens to have a quantity of radioactive
material).

Attempting to sell this aberration as a check source places them in
questionable legal standing.

Just my view.
