Health Physicist Position



The University of Missouri-Columbia Research Reactor (MURR) is currently
recruiting a Health Physicist.  MURR is the highest powered university
research reactor (10 MW) in the United States and performs multiple neutron
related research and production functions.  See position description below.

Health Physicist

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics or equivalent
combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and
abilities can be acquired is necessary.  Two to three years of experience in
applied Health Physics is necessary.  

Preferred Qualifications: Certification or eligible for certification by the
American Board of Health Physics.    

Essential Duties: Assist in the development of laboratory inspection
standards, dose limits for personnel, safe work methods and decontamination
procedures.  Monitor radiation use areas to insure compliance with NRC
regulations, MU license and other applicable standards.  Assist in the
management of Health Physics Technicians.  Consult with project leaders and
radiation users regarding their use of radioactive materials and assist them
in meeting radiation safety program requirements, including assistance in
developing corrective action of deficiencies.  Perform Health Physics
calculations in the evaluation of new projects.  Operate computers.  Perform
reviews of Reactor and Radioactive material projects and their applications.
Review/verify records for regulatory compliance.  Instruct and advise
technical support staff in principles, practices and regulations related to
radiation hazards. Conduct lectures and demonstrations on the use and
handling of radioactive materials, protective equipment, and detection and
measuring devices.  Manage and dispose of radioactive waste. Assist in the
packaging and transportation of radioactive materials.  Respond to
radiological emergency situations, participate in the facility emergency
organization and supervise decontamination.  Some lifting may be required
