At-Work/on Campus M.S. Degree in Health Physics, Michigan
University of Michigan's Second Offering an M.S. Degree in Health Physics
for Employed People
James E. Martin
The University of Michigan School of Public Health will offer, for the
second time, an at-work/on-campus M.S. program in radiological health
(health physics) starting in September 1999. Employed people can earn an
M.S. degree in about two years by attending classes on campus four days a
month.
The program is designed for people who need to continue working. It is a
full graduate program in health physics that is identical to the on-campus
program except for scheduling. Courses will be given every other Thursday
and Friday in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Participants will be enrolled University students and will receive
in-class instruction by University Professors. They need to meet the
University's graduate admission requirements, which are met by a GPA of 2.9
or better, good GRE scores, math through calculus, and one course each in
biology, chemistry, and physics. Conditional admissions are possible based
on making up any deficiencies.
Participants would have to arrange with their employers to be on campus
four days a month and to study for classes. Each participant would also
have to make arrangements for four terms of tuition and travel. Total
tuition will be approximately $16,500 spread over two years for in-state
students and $32,500 for non-resident students. An M.S. project (proposal
and research) will use on-job or personal time to reduce the amount of time
on campus, although on-campus research can be arranged.
