A Little News about RAMP
Group,
For those interested in the RAMP industries superfund site.
Good news, it is finally done.
Bad news, the cost has escalated to $12M.
More bad news, apparently, although I can not confirm it, the "early
settlement agreement" based on a much lower cost projection died while under
review either at DoJ or EPA headquarters. For those not aware, a group
representing over 90% of the waste volume met with local EPA staff the
summer of 1997 and reached a preliminary early settlement agreement which
was to be the basis of offers from the EPA for settlement. If the offers
had been made and accepted they would have limited future liability
associated with RAMP and capped the costs that the PRP's based on what was
then projected to be a final cost in the $6-8M range as I recall.
