Re: Dental X-ray machines

Typical Dental X-Ray Machines run at 70 kVp. Older machines have
variable kVp but newer ones only use one kV. Filtration is about 1.5
     - 1.8 mm Al at 70 kV. I believe this filtration comes from inherent
in the glass envelop plus added aluminum placed at the end of the
     cone.

Hope this helps. Also note - if you are performing surveys of dental
systems caution must be applied when measuring both time and kV.
Particularly with the Kiethly Triad there are problems with preheat
cycles. Let me know if you need further information. I did a nice
     study of the Triad.

Greetings all,

I would like to know the effective filtration of a standard dental X-ray
machine. Is there usually Berillium plus some other material (Cu or Al)? Also,
if there is a "standard" filtration package that is generally used (x mm Cu, y
mm Al, etc).

Also, I am under the impression that they generally run between 50 - 80 kVp. Is
this the case?

Any pointers toward established web sites would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob
