Re: Beer as a chelating agent for uranium -Reply -Reply
OK, I had to give in.
Many? years ago I had reason to advise a male grad student who had inhaled
a quantity of tritiated water. I offered usual advice, beer, coffee, tea,
cranberry juice or any other diuretic would increase excretion and lower
dose.
It was about a month later when I heard from his girl friend that he was a
teetotaler, did not drink any stimulants, and did not like cranberry juice.
Instead he may have been the first male ever to take Pamprin. Reportedly he
got a headache and didn't persist although aspirin is the major ingredient.
Those who aren't familiar with Pamprin should contact me privately.
Things were a lttle different in those days, I had an "NRC Approved"
refrigerator full of beer in my hot lab. Never thought of it as emergency
supplies but that should justify restocking.
