"RADIOACTIVE RECYCLING ALERT"

The IAEA has published guidance for "clearance" of materials with
possible surface or volumetric contamination. This guidance has been
incorporated into national legislation in Europe. Perhaps other
countries as well.

In the USA a committee is writing ANSI 13.12 to provide guidance for
appropriate screening of materials with potential surface or volumetric
contamination. This is the first US guidance for volumetric
contamination. The draft is in the process of being voted by ANSI and
may be approved in 1999.

By executive order, federal agencies are required to use national
consensus standards rather than develop their own rules.
