NORM Symposium in Brazil in September

Dear Radsafers,

I would like to let you know that the opportunity to submit abstracts for
the "II TENR" (Technological Enhancement of Natural Radioactivity, Rio de
Janeiro, September 1999) still exists (until 30 May 1999).

Additional information could be obtained directly from the Symposium website
(http://www.tenr.com.br/).

Kind regards

P.S.: additional information:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
There are numbers of situations in which materials containing natural
radionuclides are recovered, processed, used or brought into position such
that radiation exposures result. These exposures include those arising
from mineral processing; metal ore processing, zircon sands, titanium
pigment production, fossil fuels, oil and gas extraction, building material
and thorium compounds.
The TENR II aims to bring together established scientists working in this
field, to give a wider view of worked carried out regarding radionuclides in
and around non-nuclear industries, to identify gaps in our present knowledge
and to stimulate new ideas. Scientific and technical priorities for
achieving these objectives shall be identified, as well as regulatory
aspects will be covered.
TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED:
1. Processes of Enhancement of Natural Radionuclides in Mining Industries;
2. 	Radon and Radon Daughters in Mines and in the Environment;
3. 	Techniques of Measurements;
4. Sources and Effects of Enhanced Levels of Radiation in the
Environment;
5. 	Radon Outdoors and Indoors;
6. 	Natural Radionuclide Mobility and Transport;
7. 	Occupational Exposure;
8. 	Remediation and Management of Contaminated Sites;
9. 	Regulation of Industries where NORM is Produced;
10. Radon and Radium in Natural Waters and Industrial Waste Streams.
