RE: Cesium Brachytherapy question

Malek,
It is common practice to use "dummies" for the localization x-rays. This is
the purpose of most after loading systems: to reduce exposure to personnel.
The checks as to whether the actual sources are placed as the "dummies" are
usually performed while loading the actual sources into the tubes,
colpolstats and applicators and through a regular QA program on the
equipment.

Subject: Cesium Brachytherapy question

Dear Radsafers,

If using an after loading system, is it still necessary to perform x-ray
localization after the cesium sources are implanted or is it sufficient to
perform the x-ray localization with dummies? What is the common practice?
What I am trying to find out is that how one can make sure that the actual
sources are placed as they should be if an x-ray localization is not
performed after the sources are inserted.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
