Position Vacancy



The State University of New York at Buffalo is seeking applications for the
position of Radiation Safety Manager in the office of Occupational and
Environmental Safety (OES). 
The posting reads as follows:

Brief Description of Duties:   This position will manage the University's
radiation safety programs, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and
state regulations.  Will direct staff in all aspects of campus radioactive
materials safety including radiation safety at the campus research nuclear
reactor, radiation producing equipment safety, radiation safety training,
personnel and environmental monitoring, instrument calibration, and
radioactive waste collection and disposal.  Will work with university
departments and collaboratively with multiple divisions within OES.
Supports planning and operations including monitoring, decontamination,
decommissioning, and emergency response at  research nuclear reactor.
Develops and implements policies, operating procedures and training
programs.  Reviews applications to use radioactive materials and radiation
producing equipment; prepares all related reports required by regulatory
agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:     Bachelor's degree in health physics or related
science required, Masters degree or certification by the American Board of
Health Physics preferred.  Minimum five years experience in health physics
program management required.  Experience in an academic/research environment
with experience in a research nuclear reactor environment preferred.
Practical abilities with ionizing radiation sources and equipment and
associated safety instrumentation required.  Knowledge of applicable state
and federal regulations, excellent people management and interpersonal
skills required.  Excellent computer skills desirable.   Must possess a
valid driver's license.

Salary range is $40,000 - $60,000 depending upon experience and
