"Radioactive Cloud of Death"
I shook my head in resignation last night while watching yet another
scientifically inaccurate depiction of things radioactive. UPN aired this
show called "7 days" Monday night. The story went something like this: A
russian nuclear sub hits an iceberg and contaminates its ballast tanks with
plutonium. The Captain has an ethical dilemma- blow the ballast tanks and
spread deadly radiation everywhere, or scuttle the ship with the whole crew
on board and save the world. The political officer makes up his mind for him
and blows the balast tanks after commandeering the sub. The "good guys" back
here in the States in their "command center" displayed a map with a big red
blotch on it. The "Scientist" on the team mumbled something like "plutonium
to a level of 3E18 Bq" and when the hero asked for it "in English please"
the retort was "in other words a radioactive cloud of death!" Well, the
solution to this dilemma was to use a secret time machine to send the hero
back in time 7 Days to save the world and get the girl. Now why didnt I
think of that?
I wonder why they didnt just use some of the deadly plutonium cloud to fuel
the flux capacitors?
