x-ray exposure rates

Does anyone know how to actually calculate analytical x-ray system exposure rate?  I know an approximate range, and I have looked in quite a few places, and talked to a lot of people, but I haven't found any information on actual calculations.  If anyone has any information with regards to performing these calculations, I would greatly appreciate any help.
