DOE ORO Budget

Some highlights from Oak Ridge's FY2000 budget (as noted in 12/7/99 Oak
Ridger) that may be of interest:

- Oak Ridge Operations overall down by $57M from last year.
- Y-12 down by $32.9M ($50M-$60M less than what they need for this
year's work, but negotiations for a plus-up are in the works). Note
there were 400 layoffs from Y-12 this fall in anticipation of the
shortfall.
- Spallation Neutron Source $69M less than requested for construction.
- High Flux Isotope Reactor received the funding necessary for its
upgrade.
- Environmental Management D&D fund for K-25, Portsmouth, & Paducah up
by $10M.
- EM at $628M, sufficient to meet regulatory milestones under the
Federal Facilities Agreement.
- Energy efficiency & renewable resource programs at ORNL up $6M.
- Nuclear energy programs at ORNL down $4.5M.
- Work for Others and "other" DOE programs are at about the same levels
as last year.
