[ RadSafe ] radiation FROM THE SUN?

"I beg to differ and wish to clarify one thing. The global warming that the
Earth routinely experiences has everything to do with radiation FROM THE
SUN. Granted...the ad nauseum topic(s) of global warming on this list
dealt a lot more with the politics. (Honestly, I stopped reading after
awhile.)"
During these last 30 years the solar total irradiance, solar UV irradiance
and cosmic ray flux has not shown any significant secular trend, so that at
least this most recent warming episode must have another source.
In fact, measurements of solar activity indicate the sun has shown a slight
cooling trend since 1960, over the same period that global temperatures have
been warming. Over the last 35 years of global warming, sun and climate have
been moving in opposite directions. An analysis of solar trends conclude
that the sun has actually contributed a slight cooling influence in recent
decades.
This conclusion is confirmed by many studies finding that while the sun
contributed to warming in the early 20th Century, it has had little
contribution (most likely negative) in the last few decades:
The decade ending in 2009 was the warmest on record, new surface temperature
figures released by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration show.
2009 was the second warmest year since 1880, when modern temperature
measurement began. The warmest year was 2005. The other hottest recorded
years have all occurred since 1998, NASA said.
The last decade is the warmest on record.
Experts led by NOAA and sponsored by NASA says "If our prediction is
correct, Solar Cycle 24 will have a peak sunspot number of 90, the lowest of
any cycle since 1928 when Solar Cycle 16 peaked at 78," says panel chairman
Doug Biesecker of the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.
Of course these are just numbers.
YRMV - depending on your politics.

I beg to differ and wish to clarify one thing. The global warming that the
Earth routinely experiences has everything to do with radiation FROM THE
SUN. Granted...the ad nauseum topic(s) of global warming on this list
dealt a lot more with the politics. (Honestly, I stopped reading after
awhile.)
I invite you to visit www.spaceweather.com and they have some great
information on the sunspot cycles and how they affect the Earth's
temperature.
Respectfully,
Dustin Miller

Hey, sorry I asked. I just consider the people on the list some of the most
well informed and thoughtful people I have had the pleasure to know, as it
were.
I'm not out to save the whales.
Global warming did not "HAVE TO DO WITH RADIATION" either, but it went on ad
nauseam.
I'd delete the post if I could. Feel free to use your delete button or reply
off list.
Thanks,
LA

Dear Juan:
