[ RadSafe ] Support Radon Mine but mention "kill" scientist make nosense, help!

Hi, John.

There several "radon health mines" offering people the chance to sit in an old mine (or a building above a vent from a mine) and breath high concentrations of radon. The ones I am aware of in the US are in Montana, but there could be others. They are sometimes played out radium mines, but any shaft-type mine will probably do. The list of things they claim to help with is impressive: http://www.radonmine.com/why.html.

While I am open to the idea of hormesis, I am unconvinced that breathing radon gas in a mine has a positive health effect. I also don't believe it has a negative effect, both because the total additional dose fairly small (due to limited exposure times) and the often advanced age of the clientele (negative health effects with long latency periods lose much of their sting after a certain age).

As I said, I believe "radon health mines" are quackery, but I don't invest much emotional capital in objecting to them. When I feel the need to rail against quackery, I find denouncing the anti-vaccine people more satisfying.

Mike

I have never heard of "radon mines", but only radon in mines.
