Is this related to any current Echelon activity, and not related to the
original Manhattan Project?

I have been involved in research and discussions with other academics in
the health care industry oriented around Internet data exchange and
security -- especially in light of the most recent DDoS incidents.

Increasingly, we are finding oblique references to the revamping of the old
Echelon Project that was used for espionage by the US during WWII and the
"Cold War" that is now oriented around global electronic data intercepts --
to include governmental, personal and business Internet traffic. There is
quite a flap about Echelon going on right now with the current EU meetings
on security.

I am an RT, and have lurked on the list for months to follow the radSafe
threads for enrichment, and just about fell out of my chair when the
Manhattan Project query came through. There are elements in the darker
corners of the Internet community that maintain that Project Echelon is in
fact a growing federal multi-agency Black Ops global project of domestic
and foreign electronic espionage that has been named the Manhattan Project
for informal communications as well as for descriptive purposes -- it's
allegedly a secret global project with many multi-national participants,
and the use of old nomenclature for the current project was intentionally
chosen to overwhelm and confuse any searching techniques of governmental
archives and communications.

I am not part of a militia, have never been abducted by aliens nor I do not
look for Apache attack helicopters spying on me when I go grocery shopping.

We started out as a mixed group of health care "techies" investigating
Internet security for confidential health-care data exchange, and this
"Echelon thing" kept popping up seemingly randomly -- but with greater
frequency from many very different quarters.

Again, I have to wonder if this is related to any current Echelon activity,
and not related to the original Manhattan Project? Is this even REMOTELY
related?

Best regards.
