Caldicott fear-mongering
I've just re-joined the radsafe list to alert you all to the following
opinion article in the Sydney Morning Herald of 2 March by Helen Caldicott
http://www.smh.com.au/news/0003/02/text/features7.html on "Why Sydney should
be worried about Lucas Heights" .
The 10 MW HIFAR reactor at Lucas Heights south of Sydney is utilised for
Mo-99/Tc-99m production and neutron beam R&D. It is to be replaced with a
modern 20 MW pool reactor in 2005.
Given Caldicott's connections with the U.S. lobby group STAR ("Standing for
Truth Against Radiation") and their success in contributing to the closure
of the Brookhaven research reactor, perhaps radsafers could help to provide
some facts to counter Caldicott's opinion.
