Scottish Beach Beside Nuclear Plant Contaminated, BBC Says

Scottish Beach Beside Nuclear Plant Contaminated, BBC Says

Edinburgh, April 28 (Bloomberg) -- A public beach beside the Dounreay
nuclear power plant in Scotland contains a higher number of
contaminated particles than previously thought, the British
Broadcasting Corp. reported on its Web site, citing the beach's
owner. The monitoring carried out by the U.K. Atomic Energy
Authority, which owns the plant, hasn't picked up all of the
contaminated particles, the BBC said, citing owner Jeffrey Minter who
commissioned an independent report. A nuclear particle the size of a
grain of sand was found on the beach last month, the BBC reported.

British Nuclear Fuels Plc, which runs the Sellafield nuclear
reprocessing plant, said last month the U.K. government won't sell a
stake in the company before the second half of 2002, due to concerns
about safety data.
