Re: Unplug Salem, etc.
This is way off the radiation topics, so briefly: To kill phragmite (bad plants) and replace them with spartina (good plants) that supposedly makes better wetland fish habitats, one must repeatedly herbicide and burn the marshes. This is not good for the marsh, and has basically made the marsh into a mix of phragmite, a little spartina, and lots of mud.
Cooling towers would reduce fishkills by 95%, and are required by the Clean Water Act, section 316(b). According to the NJ DEP's Versar Report, a little under one billion mature fish
are killed each year. Add to that billions of other marine organisms. Fish on the kill list include weakfish, bay anchovy, sturgeon. You can check the website of the Delaware Riverkeeper
Network (sorry url not at immediate hand) or Clean Ocean Action for details.

What quantity of fish are killed by PSEG because of their lack of cooling towers.. what species of fish are killed? I'd be willing to bet that PSEG's "estuary enhancement" program has done one heck of a lot less damage to marshes than all the continued coastal development in this country or all of the power boats that continue to spew toxins into our waterways.... or all of the storm drains drain into the watershed because people want to live near the coasts or on lakes in our country.... if people really care about the marshes and the coastal areas, the best thing they could do for those areas is to leave, pack up and move away. then there will be no more storm drain run off, and maybe, we should ban all powerboats from any water... if you want to be on the ocean you can only sail...and if we are going to protect fish, then we should outlaw "sport- catch and release" fishing, because!
