portable NaI gamma spec

There are at least 9 systems to pick from, depending on your needs.

BNC (Berkeley)
Canberra
Ortec
Exploranium
SAIC
Bicron
XRF Corp (CdTe detector)
Quantrad Sensor
HP Instruments (Far West Technology)

Not all have nuclide id.
Most can store multiple spectra (but not all).
Most can dump data to a PC and some have fancy external analysis software
(BNC, Canberra, Ortec, etc.)
Some have dose rate interpretation making them effective microrem
instruments, both gross and for a specific radionuclide.
The HPI is by far the cheapest, but is also a bare bones unit. Most are in
the $8-11k range.
Some are very nice as a stand alone, sequential monitoring system (BNC,
Exploranium)

But one should keep in mind PC based systems using an acquisition board -
more flexible and less expensive. And ultimately a HPGe detector may be
want you really need if you have complex, unknown spectra.
