HP Technician Position



The University of Missouri Research Reactor has an immediate opening for a
Health Physics Technician.  The MURR is a 10 MW HEU fueled research reactor
dedicated to the production of radiopharmaceuticals for the fight against
cancer.  A basic job description follows:

Provide Health Physics coverage for various experimentation and maintenance
activities associated with radiation/reactor facilities. Consult with and
advise radiation workers regarding experiments and general use of radiation
and radioactive material to define and minimize potential hazards. Perform
radioactive contamination analysis of samples. Prescribe, demonstrate and
verify proper use of survey instruments, film badges, extremity dosimeters,
pocket ionization chambers, protective clothing, decontamination of
materials, equipment and shielding. Perform and document surveys of areas
where radiation sources are being used. Maintain performance checks,
calibrations and NIST traceability for radiation detection instrumentation
used in analyses. Analyze environmental samples and assist in preparing a
report on the results and significance of the analyses. Perform employee
indoctrination, information and training programs to provide worker training
in the handling of radioactive materials. Assist in developing and reviewing
Health Physics and Reactor Chemistry procedures and forms. 

An Associate's degree in Health Physics or a related field or an equivalent
combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and
abilities can be acquired is necessary. Two to three years of experience in
health physics operations is necessary.
