RE: Draft FDA Guidance document on the use of KI

Greetings,

1.It should not matter how radio iodine got into
the blood stream/thyroid.
2.The difference between milk pathway (digestive) and
the inhalation is:
the percentage(partition) of intake to uptake.

If you use normalize (same uCi/ml("cc"))) radio iodine
concentrations for milk and air.
Than the iodine from the milk will contribute a much
higher dose to the thyroid.

You are right about the time line.

I also see a some explainable inconsistency.

1. Inhalation was/is the major pathway of initial
hours after the release/fallout.

2. Digestion is/will be during following days, when
radio iodine is washed down to the ground, absorbed by
the grass, eaten by the cows and inhaled by the cows
;-). etc)

So what?
Why do we have inconsistency?

Probably, in those study-cases radio iodine air
concentration was substantially smaller than its
concentration in the milk.

And

They did not accounted for the inhalation pathway as a
major contributer the thyroid dose for that or some
other reasons (lack of data-???).

It is possible that in areas surrounding Chernobyl
the radio iodine air sampling was not performed to a
degree that we could have more conclusive data.
As far as I know most of the studies were conducted in
the areas which would not be NORMALY surveyed by the
Chernobyl Plant's emergency radiation protection team
during the first hours after the accident. We ya'll
know that almost everybody was in denial for next few
days!!!.
So I am not surprized that air sampling data are not
conclusive and the only milk, which was collected in
the following days and was analized for the radio
iodines, provided some data to work with.

Actually it sounds like a subject for PhD.

To be seriouse.

KI shell be taken within the first hours to block
thyroid's uptake (period)

In the following days the administred amount of KI
should be should not be taken, decreased or
discontinued,it depends on
water, milk sample results. There always will be a
some degree of deviation in actions.

In addition, it was previousely discussed about some
minor biochemical side effects of KI.

Emil.

Does anybody else see inconsistencies here? Most of
the thyroid cancers
were caused by ingestion milk products, but we want
you to take KI
immediately (or within 4 hours) when the accident
occurs for protection
against inhaled radioiodines?? It seems we are
spending a lot of time and
resources for protection against the inhaled
radioiodines when it is the
ingested products that are the real culprits. My
thoughts alone.
