Save 45% of US Lung Cancer Deaths

HELP!

Can Health Physicists prevent up to 45% of the 154,900/year USA deaths

from lung cancer?

"Five year survival rates have remained dismal- between 12% and 14%

(Patz NEJM 2000;343:1627)” – “[but] in Japan up to 58% in 1992 (Bechtel

Lung Cancer 2000;30)”

“-cost $10,000/life-year saved vs $50,000 for breast cancer (Henschke

Cancer 2001;92:153)” (TLPetty Consultant Sept 2001).

Why? ”American Cancer Society recommends [smokers] – understand both the

limits of our knowledge about the potential benefits of screening with

low-dose CT, AS WELL AS POTENTIAL HARMS ASSOCIATED WITH DIAGNOSTIC

PROCEDURES AND TREATMENT” [caps Long’s] (ACS Guidelines for the Early

Detection of Cancer, CA, a Cancer Journal for Clinicians Jan2002;52:1.

“This article is also available online at www.cancer.org”

Name a single death, “associated with diagnostic procedure”!

Please help me convince the ACS that 1 rad from CT is associated with

LESS cancer and death.(bombs, Chernobyl, mountain states, Ramisar, etc.

It costs (among other things) 50,000 USA lung cancer deaths/year to

perpetuate the idols of ALARA and LNT.

Shades of Detroit! Bring USA up to Japan. Please register your opinion @

www.cancer.org!
