"Middle road" in US culture often means "actually applying reason and logic

to participate in the debate". This is usually the best way to be sure that

you are not invited to appear in discussion forums on radio or TV ("Can we

ask you for your opinion?", "Actually, I can see both sides of this

issue...."<click>). I prefer this to the disingenuous tactics of many

anti-nukes, who are not interested in public safety, in fact they are

willing to risk human lives in order to win a political battle, by

supporting a situation that is clearly less desirable (on-site storage of

spent fuel) than a safer and cleaner alternative (permanent disposal in a

well characterized site). The main goal is to suffocate an industry by any

means available, not protect the public. Meanwhile supermodels and Nevada

gaming commissioners testify before Congress, basically determining US

energy and public safety policies over the objections of scientists and

engineers, whose careers are dedicated to enhancing public safety, and who

actually have relevant information to offer. Makes perfect sense to me.
