The British Ministry of Defence [MOD] has gone on record as opposing a large offshore wind farm because of the potential for radar interference on military radar. Since Radsafe is concerned with all aspects of radiation - nonionizing as well as ionizing, here is some food for thought.

Of interest, if windfarms indeed do interfere with military radar, a large windmill or grouping of them might  also interfere with civilian radar leading to an airplane accident. If a commercial airliner then goes off course shortly after takeoff fully laden with fuel,  and hits something unintended, according to the anti-nukes guidebook "Nuclear Obstructionism for Dummies" it will be a nuclear power plant [or a spent fuel cask wending its way toward Yucca]. Of course, a skyscraper could get hit but as we've learned from the World Trade Center "incident",  airliners hitting tall buildings, petrochemical and LNG storage tanks, chemical plants,  etc.,  isn't as much of a concern to anti-nuke activists as the threat to reinforced concrete structures at commercial nuclear power plants.  


As is obvious [if you think like the anti nukes] an airliner hitting a nuclear plant of course would lead to a China Syndrome scenario and  breach of containment with the resultant accident contaminating an area the size of Pennsylvania for 10,000 years. Bottom line, depending on your interpretation of these possibilities, the US must shut down all 100 commercial nukes quickly before windmill farms get built, or windmills will KILL [albeit through a rather farfetched but NOT impossible scenario]. nuclear power plants did not exist and their current inventory of spent fuel were teletransported off the earth [a la Star Trek beam transport] since the waste cannot safely be shipped for disposal and is a terrorist target where it sits presently.


The time for shutting down all nuclear power stations is now [if you buy into the "possibilities" above - TIC]. Have a great weekend.
