These units don't not have a good basis, since cosmic ray activity is

variable over time and depends on other factors like air density (= air

pressure), air moisture etc. Therefore they cannot be used for the accurate

measurements, which are necessary in nowadays evaluation of radiological

impact of for instance neutrinos.



About 25 years ago there was a man working in the Radiation Protection

Department of the Austrian Ministry for Health and Environment Protection,

whose name was "Vychytil". He was afraid of every kind of radiation and his

credo was to reduce doses to zero. So we invented as a practical unit for

dangerous air contamination the "Vychocurie per cubic lightyear", where a

Vychocurie was 10E-21 Curies, the cubic lightyear you can calculate

yourself!
