RE: Animal radon studies



That's interesting -- I understood that the significant lung dose

contribution from radon was actually from the radon progeny rather than the

radon itself, as the inert radon would be exhaled while the charged progeny

would remain within the lung attached to the mucosal lining and lung tissue

surfaces.  If that were the case, it would reason that lung doses would

increase rather than decrease with exposure to cigarette smoke.  On the

other hand, if the dose contributed is from only radon gas (i.e. no

progeny); then this would make sense.  If you find the story, I would be

interested in viewing it as well.

I remember reading a test refered to as the "smoking beagles" in the HPS 

Journal.  They found that radon has less affect on the beagles that were 

exposed to cigarette smoke because the mucus produced as a result of the 

irritant smoke shielded the lungs form the radon radiation.  I will try and 

find the story today.
