Radon Dose and

Hi All,

It looks like I was careless and forgot some addressees!

So here goes again:

Hi Bill and All,

Why does Howard have to be "BOARDED" to have a valid opinion?!

Neither Joe Alvarez nor I are "boarded" and, the same as Howard, we are

just plain scientists. If someone is throwing his weight around on this

list in this unkind manner, that person has to expect some equally

unkind

questions.

So, now, why has the "boarded" epidemiological community been

unable to answer the purely logical argument Joe Alvarez and I have

made? It shows by using plain old logic that the whole "Ecological

Fallacy" argument is false for a risk assessment, and that the only data

that can be used for the risk of a radon exposure of population of

Americans are the uncorrected, raw data of Bernie Cohen! This is

published in:

Seiler, F.A., and J.L. Alvarez. "Is the 'Ecological Fallacy' a

Fallacy?" Hum. Ecol. Risk Assess. 6, 921-941, 2000.

Seiler, F.A., and J.L. Alvarez. "Confounding Factors and the Use of

Epidemiological Data." Hum. Ecol. Risk Assess. 8, 627-630, 2002.

The "corrected" or "deconfounded" data that epidemiologists seem to

strive for, have almost no practical scientific application. The only

application is for a non-smoking cohort, which is quite hard to find in

the US (because 25% of us do smoke!), or for a non-smoking individual,

and then the uncertainties are likely much too large (see second paper).

So when you sit in a glass house.... In short, can we be more polite and

respectful to each other?

Have a nice week, everyone!

Best regards,

Fritz
