POSITION TITLE: HEAD, MEDICAL X-RAY PROGRAM
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under limited direction, is responsible for the development and
implementation of province-wide radiation protection programs and services
impacting the diagnostic x-ray professions. Acts as the Provincial
Coordinator in BC for the planning and delivery of provincial and national
programs for the evaluation of trends in health related risks associated
with current and emerging issues in diagnostic radiology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A Masters degree in Health Management.
2. Minimum of seven (7) years varied experience in imaging technology
operation, departmental management and radiation protection or quality
assurance.
3. Canadian Association of Medical Radiological Technologists
registration
as a Radiological Technologist in diagnostic radiology or a degree in
medical physics or radiation protection.
4. Fully familiar with the relevant federal and provincial legislation
and
with appropriate standards; these include: the WCB Occupational Health and
Safety Regulations on Radiation, the Federal Radiation Emitting Devices
Regulations, Health Canada's Radiation Safety Codes, Recommendations of the
International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and relevant
publications of the US National Council on Radiation Protection and
Measurements (NCRP).
5. Demonstrated knowledge on the design and operation of diagnostic
x-ray
equipment and facilities, as well as their radiation hazards, including the
various types of radiation monitoring and test instrumentation, and their
use.
6. Ability to provide formal training with emphasis on safety practices
to
medical physicists, radiation technologists, radiation managers, equipment
manufacturers/installers/suppliers, using group and individual teaching
sessions on-site and in classroom settings.
7. Demonstrated planning and organizational skills including the
ability to
prioritize workloads to meet deadlines and work independently.
8. Ability to work diplomatically and persuasively with a variety of
groups.
9. Working knowledge of personal computers and standard software
packages
including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and presentation
software and working knowledge of industry specialized software.

STATUS: TEMPORARY
SALARY: ~$30.00+ per hour (Canadian)
DATE REQUIRED: OCTOBER 21, 2002 - JANUARY 9, 2004
HOURS: MONDAY - FRIDAY; 7.2 HOURS PER DAY
