No.  Hiroshima and Nagasaki were intended to demonstrate that one bomb carried by one plane could devastate a city, and that the bomb was a powerful new weapon, more efficient than anything Japan had.  A number of incendiary bomb attacks killed more people in a single raid than either atom bomb:  the bombing of Tokyo, the two "Battles of Britain," the bombing of Dresden, for example.

Could we please stop re-fighting World War II?
