RE: transport radioactive instruments
In the U.S., there is no specific transport requirement for having a radiation detector. Some activities (like industrial radiography), have requirements for meters and personnel dosimeters (that others on the list can talk about much better than I can), that lead to a "de facto" requirement for monitors for transport, but it's not specifically a transport requirement.
Some types of transport shipments equip their drivers with meters, but it's usually a voluntary thing.

Subject: transport radiactive instruments
Hi
We have in Israel a new regulation for the safe transport of dangerous materials -including radioactive. According to the regulation any vehicle transporting radioactive materials must carry a radiation detector. My problem is with cars carrying soil density and moisture probes ( Troxler etc'). Do you need to have a radiation detector in every car according to the regulation in USA and Europe???
Thank You
