Re: Apparent anti-correlations between geographic radiation and cancer are not surprising
When the Local Oversight Committee examined the emissions and possible
health effects of DOE's TSCA Incinerator in Oak Ridge, we discovered
that in Tennessee cancer rates were typically higher in the counties
containing big cities (Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis) than in more rural
counties, including those near Oak Ridge. That suggests to me that air
pollution, stress associated with population density, transmission of
viruses, or other non-lifestyle factors may be of significant importance
in promoting cancer. There is still a lot we don't know.
