Re: Apparent anti-correlations between geographic radiation and cancer are not surprising



When the Local Oversight Committee examined the emissions and possible

health effects of DOE's TSCA Incinerator in Oak Ridge, we discovered

that in Tennessee cancer rates were typically higher in the counties

containing big cities (Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis) than in more rural

counties, including those near Oak Ridge.  That suggests to me that air

pollution, stress associated with population density, transmission of

viruses, or other non-lifestyle factors may be of significant importance

in promoting cancer.  There is still a lot we don't know.
